The more we focus on the fear of the Lord, the less we will fear the world and everything it brings.

Fearing the Lord is like being a little kid and knowing your dad will always be there for you. Your young heart is thoroughly convinced he will destroy or remove whatever is making you afraid.

We can take this precious understanding of God—that He is our Father and will protect us—and use it to “set boundaries” around our household and everything we hold dear. Instead of the enemy acting upon us, we can agree with God’s Word and set safety perimeters around our family:

“No weapon formed against us will prosper.”

“God is with us like a mighty Warrior.”

“His angels surround us.”

“He heals us every time we need healing.”

“He binds up our wounds.”

“We have everything we need.”

“Nothing by any means will hurt us.”

Because we fear the Lord, we get to set those boundaries for our little ones, our spouse, and everything that belongs to us. We don’t need to be afraid to set the boundaries defined in God’s Word. In fact, setting those boundaries is the beginning of protecting our children and the rest of our household.

Boundaries and Basic Needs

Many children endure trauma because their parents don’t have a deep understanding of the fear of the Lord and therefore don’t set good boundaries. They don’t prepare a place for their children and welcome them into a safe home. One of our basic needs is to be welcomed, and one way parents do this for their children is by agreeing with what He says in His Word.

We can also set boundaries through our actions such as prayer, showing love to one another, being in a good relationship with our spouse, etc. All of these things are “boundary setters” that help protect the home.

“This is what the atmosphere of our home will be like. This is where we worship God. We host His presence here, and we listen to our children. Our children feel safe and loved here, and they are growing up surrounded by kindness and the favor of the Lord.”

In simple, often “quiet” ways, fearing the Lord allows us to accelerate an entire generation twenty, thirty, or forty years beyond where we were when we were children.

Boundaries in Chaotic Times

The fear of the Lord has so many practical applications, especially in a season when the rest of the world is afraid. The enemy wants to drive us into terror and chaos as well—but because we fear the Lord, we have His boundaries, not the boundaries of darkness.
